Dr. Cottone is a native Chicagoan. He grew up on the southside of Chicago. He attended and graduated number one in his class at De La Salle Highschool. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois @ Chicago and received his doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry in May of 1980. During his internship, he participated in the clinical trials of the panosite featherwate bifocal contact lens. He also specialized in children's vision. After having completed his post doctoral training in medical treatment and management of eye disease, Dr. Cottone has co-managed numerous laser refractive patients and has co-managed pre and post operative cataract patients. Also, he was the past chairman of a Chicago laser center and Dr. Cottone has also lectured numerous times at refractive surgical seminars. At the request of numerous contact lens companies, Dr. Cottone has participated in many studies relating to specialty contact lenses as well as round table discussions. He has also written articles in national trade journals as well as local newspapers.
Dr. Cottone is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, which is an organization that strives to be on the cutting edge of the optometric profession. Most recently, Dr. Cottone was asked to be a reviewer of medical information on websites relating to optometry.
Primary eyecare has been the focus of Dr. Cottone's practice which is located on the southwest side of Chicago. He specializes in co-management of surgical patients, the treatment of Glaucoma and specialty contact lenses while promoting the private and professional integrity of the optometric profession.
In his free time, Dr. Cottone is studying the Italian language from internationally respected Nancy R. Loglisci, he enjoys jogging and designing websites.
